A random pause for religion

Right, so I hate political and religious arguments. They are so difficult to have. Everything is so very subjective. Things that make sense from one point of view don't make sense from another point of view. How can we openly discuss issues of religion when religion itself keeps sticking its foot out for us to trip over. The Preamble of the US Constitution says that the country was established in order to do many things, one of which was to "...secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity...".

liberty (n.) The right and power to act, believe, or express oneself in a manner of one's own choosing.

I am happy with that definition given by dictionary.com (one of several really). But what a vague idea that is. If we really could do whatever the heck we wanted, we wouldn't be where we are. And I mean that in a positive and negative way. Where does religion come in for the concept of liberty? That is a question I am pondering today*. I will be playing the role of myself and will attempt to play the devil's advocate, so to speak.

*sparked by watching the 5th installment of the Revelations miniseries on NBC
