...and five weeks to go! My history class has started out okay. I will be completely rid of school five weeks from now.
But, onto the bike riding. First, let me start by saying that I am the lamest person ever. We bought our bikes and picked them up in the rain on Friday. I was so eager to ride. I had to wait until Sunday afternoon to do so. Well, bike riding is not easy. It is not remotely easy, especially when you are an out of shape blob like me. Maybe its just me. I have always wondered how people use a stair master for any length of time because it would always kill my quads/thighs. Well, ladies and gentlemen, bike riding is worse. It was horrible. Apparently I have even less in common with my childhood self than feeling like I have to wear a helmet as opposed to not wearing one back then. I can't even ride the damn bike as compared to back then! Tragedy! And woe is me. Not to mention that I hate the stupid helmet, my brakes were squeaking loudly, and I have no idea how to work the gears.
Anyway, I'm not giving up on it, though it is not fun like I expected. Yeah, yeah, I gotta build up to it...well that bites. Amazingly, running was actually easier for me. So, it looks like I might have to do the complete opposite of what I thought. I may have to run to build up my stamina so that I can ride my bike! At least me and hubby have matching bikes :)

Well, it will be like being a kid again once you've been at it a while I suspect. Do you have good bike paths where you are?
I bike to work - quite a hike - every day that is is sunny. It is a heck of a workout, and each spring, getting back into shape kills me. I got back in shape this year, and now it has been raining for five days. Guess that's what stationary bikes are for. ;-)
Yeah there are some cool trails in the area. But, now I don't even want to try them anymore. I have to wait until I am somewhat up to Ted's speed :)
I bought a new bike this summer too! You might be having a hard time riding because your seat and handle bars aren't adjusted properly. I raised my handlebars a few inches and it made a huge difference (and was a lot easier to ride.)
Hmm, I did adjust the seat several times. I have to look in the manual on how to mess with the handlebars, but it is worth a try. Thx!
Ahhh bike riding. You know, someone once said that "...is like riding a bike. You never forget." Yeah, that person is a douchebag. Sure you never forget that you rode it. Your body forgets HOW to ride it.
Case in point: A few years ago I had a bmx bike. I thought about how exciting it would be to ride to school everyday and how in shape I'd be and all the suckerchumps I'd be passing by in traffic. I remembered how in middle and elementary school I used to bmx race against older kids and did very well. I could bunnyhop, tabletop, and almost cherrypick. If you don't know what those mean, it means you're not cool like me. Or was. *sigh*
So I jumped on this bike and rode and it felt really weird. I didn't pay too much attention and continued to ride and thought it'd be great to ramp something! So I did. I jumped the curb. For some reason since my yesteryears, my center of gravity has changed. I used to jump and go straight up in total control. This time I jumped and an invisible hand kind of picked me up by my waistband, like God giving me an Atomic Wedgie. I I have spun/cartwheeled through the air landing hipfirst into the handlebars then face first into the ground. It really sucked.
I also tried riding without hands, which I used to be able to do for miles and even lean into sharp turns with ease. For my current results, see the above results.
Why all this? Because in June I'm moving to Richmond which is pretty much bike terrortory. No I didn't misspell. I need to get on this sucker and learn to ride! Or else all the other bike gangs will knock me over and make me cry. I want to be like...."Street Hawk!" HUZZAH!!! (look up Street Hawk if you're not familiar.)

By the way, look up how to set the seat height so you get the maximum efficiency and workout. Also, make sure you have a supportive seat. If there's too much weight on your pelvic bone, it effects bloodflow and nerves. It can cause incontinence and "leaks" in both men and women.
