Lately, Ted and I have been watching a lot of movies. We're trying to keep up with things. He is especially a movie buff so our previous lack of movie watching was getting to him. So, what have we seen lately?
The Departed - non-Mafia gangsters duking it out, something I would never allow my children to watch (I find myself thinking more those terms now :) and Leonardo DiCaprio's hotness; deemed awesome
The Guardian - rescue divers and the ocean duking it out, was typical but enjoyable. Oh, and Ashton Kutcher's hotness; deemed okay
The Prestige - European magicians duking it out, especially due to Christian Bale's hotness and Hugh Jackman's close to hotness; deemed awesome
A Sound of Thunder - people and evolved dinosaurs in a messed up future duking it out, a scifi film that has solved a 15 year puzzle for me! When I was in like 8th grade, I read a short story about people who went back in time to hunt dinosaurs and if they did anything off this path, they could change the future (which someone of course does). Anyway, I always wondered what this story was...well, Ted picks up this random straight to dvd movie in Blockbuster that is about that very thing. It is in fact the movie version of the short story (by Ray Bradbury) that I had been searching for for years. Now, looking back, I could have looked it up prior to finding this movie because I remembered the main aspects of the story. But, I just never did...I would just ask people randomly over the years if they knew what it was. Anyway, the special effects were pretty bad, like in a hi-class Scifi channel movie, but in general; deemed okay
Nacho Libre - fake Mexican and strange people duking it out, a little late on seeing this, had to rent it. Was weary of watching because I felt it was possibly in poor taste...and I can be a stickler about that sort of thing. In fact, the movie was just poor. It was excruciatingly bad. We sat in virtual silence almost the whole movie...and it was supposed to be a comedy. Don't get me wrong, I love Jack Black to death, but; deemed horrible
Howl's Moving Castle - wizards duking it out, a neato little anime film by Hayao Miyazaki, a master of anime. Was interesting and very Miyazaki-like. Oh, did I forget to mention that one of the main voices was Christian Bale?; deemed good
Savage Planet - idiots in the future and mutated bears duking it out, I watched this while ago, but I had to mention this ridiculous movie on the Scifi channel that we tivo'd because it seemed decent. It sat on our tivo for months (probably because we sensed it was lame). I finally watched it and wasted hours of my life doing so. I'll just say that people usually use medical tape to keep bandages on, not the dried blood of the wound. Oh, and running into a rock should not make your head get knocked off; deemed just ridiculous
Stranger than Fiction - no one duking it out, but Will Ferrell is so good he's funny when he simply repeats something that someone else says. Was on the mellow side and could be slow, but I didn't care. I was immersed. I really liked it. I wasn't blown away, but it was different; deemed great
Soon to see:
Deja Vu (I'm not researching where to put the accents)
Saw III
(Not) Borat: blah blah blah...again with the bad taste

Borat. Not in bad taste. It makes fun of prejudices. It's pretty different than the show in that it effectively skewers that whole thing. Plus, when I was working at the mortgage place, a guy I was working with has a brother who was the camera man on that movie. He told me about about a part that was a riot. Literally. It's in good taste. Trust me. Watch it. Best 80 minutes ever. Oh, and Casino Royale, badass! It's very well done and closer to The Bourne Identity than it is to previous Bond movies, but it's really great. The opening parkour scene is worth excellent too. I'm not good at reviewing movies. :(
See "Little Miss Sunshine" it's a very very feel good family oriented (but not family viewing) movie that's sweet, hilarious, and touching.

I would like to add "Thank You for Smoking" to your list. Hysterical.
I had sort of mixed reviews about Borat, but I would probably reccomend seeing it ... just so you can add to the hype.
Sorry, Bobby, there's no convincing me on Borat. I'm not denying that it will be funny, I just prefer to laugh at other types of things for the most part.
Who knows, one day I may change my mind though...
Would definitely like to see Thank You For Smoking and Little Miss Sunshine though.
