Last Weekend at the Beach

It's been a long time…I shouldn'ta left you…without a dope blog to surf to.

And cut.

Sorry, I felt the need to do a little cheesy 80s rap throwback.

Anyway, it has been a while.  A lot has happened!  But unfortunately for anyone reading this, it isn't all that interesting for the most part.  Just my life…being lived.

Two weekends ago, hubby and I went to my parents' house on the water in Virginia to celebrate my older sister's birthday.  We had a great time, though the weather was a little bad.  We celebrated my sister's birthday by waiting to get a table at the Cheesecake Factory for an hour and a half, stuffing ourselves, and then coming home and further stuffing ourselves with a birthday cake my Dad busted out at the last minute.  It was pretty fun.  However, the highlight of the night was the crackhead idea that my sister had.  Right, lets go gallivanting on the beach and look at the waves while the wind blows snowy razor blades into our eyes!  Great idea…my sister, my mom, and I got all bundled up in coats and scarves and gloves and blankets and went outside to the water.  At first it wasn't that bad because my parents' house is set back from the water with mostly open sand in front of it with houses on either side that are a little closer to the water.  The snow was blowing around (which in itself was weird because we were on a beach).  But, once we cleared the next door houses and were on the open beach, it got 10 million times worse and we could barely walk straight, let alone actually see anything.  Shoot, had my mom not warned me, I would have fallen right off the side of a cliff made of sand carved out by the wind and tide.  It was several feet off the ground and it would have hurt badly and would have been a very startling surprise…and apparently would have been very funny as my sister informed me the next day.  Well, we of course realized very quickly that we couldn't stay out there and live so we hurried back inside.  It took at least a good five minutes for my eyes to stop watering and I don't want to know what my hair looked like.  But, it was fun.

The next day, my sister, mom and I went out to the beach again, bundled up the same way because it was cold.  But, there was no snow.  Just strong wind.  My mom said she saw a seagull flying in place!  I felt like a total idiot in the getup I had on, but I was definitely warmer because of it.  A lot of the shells on the beach were broken, but when we went near this wooden jetty that ran from the beach out into the water, there were several good ones.  The water was splashing up against the jetty so we had to do a little screaming and scurrying to try and not get wet by the splashing or the tide.  I got two blue shells that looked very cool.  I gave one of them to my sister that had weird "Alien Nation" spots (as I called them) on it and I kept one that had lots of ridges going along the outside of it.  My sister also got what seemed to be an old oyster shell.

Overall, the trip was really fun and we had a nice long weekend.  It's always really fun when I hang out with my family.  I was glad to have some "bonding time" with my older sister because I don't see her that much since she lives in California.  We spent the Monday after (Martin Luther King Jr. day) at home.  This is the first job I've been at that gave us that day off.  I saw a few things on tv and I read some articles about things going on. But,  I feel like I should pay a little more attention next year or actually try to do something with myself.  It's not just some bunk holiday.  In fact, I'm not sure any of the holidays in the U. S. are bunk.  But, I don't pay much attention to any of them.  Always too caught up in my own life.  I'll have to think about that.  Hopefully, I've got lots of life left.
